Artist Statement – Hussein Tai

A recurring theme in Hussein Tai’s art is an inherent inner conflict
between different elements, which brings an ambiguous tension to his
works of art.

The ability to interpret and understand the elements of art brings the viewer closer to the origin of the work. Thus, art becomes significant when it is not is not simply a copy of reality, but manages to create its own unique universe, representing reality in an original and independent way.

Tai’s works reflect observations of conflicting elements that he sees in he sees everyday in both landscapes and buildings. He is fascinated by the contrast between soft and angular shapes, the contrast between large and small, the conflict between colors, between light and shadow, but also the human balance between stillness and movement.

For Tai, art is about capturing and expressing human presence
and interpreting our historical footprints. Art is not only a representation of the the beautiful, but also of the human and imperfect presence.

Thus, art is an independent existence, a being that creates its own unique footprint that corresponds to the human presence.
