Tina Hvid; Ceramicist
I work with abstract sculptures with an organic expression about the concept of growth. Colorful glazes and budding towards and against each other are characteristic of my works. My ceramic works are modeled by hand in stoneware clay.
I am interested in testing my sculptures in terms of color. It is especially the synthetic colors I explore. I work with a thick layer of glaze, many layers of glossy glaze, which gives my works an almost plasticky appearance. I use airbrush when I color my sculptures and experiment with the transition between colors.
In my latest works, I have worked with dialogues where my sculptures are part of small stage scenarios. Focusing on the relationship between form, space, surfaces and cohesion – the flat and three-dimensional, I explore how they interact with panels on the walls and floor.
I work with pdf plates; I examine the shape, what shape matches the sculptures and the expression I am aiming for. Once the mold is found and cut out, you research the color, what color should the plate be? The colors from the sculpture interact with the color of the plate and different expressions are being researched.
As a new approach, I work with the free-floating sculpture. The sculpture without a flat surface. I investigate how it should hang, on rope, chain, wire, from the ceiling, a mental or wooden stand. What happens if I put several works together and let them interact with each other?
