Artist Statement – Rasmus Nielsen
The two textile works on display are part of Rasmus Nielsen’s series RE:PATCH. The works are rooted in an intuitive and deconstructive creative process, where technological precision meets an organic, tactile aesthetic.
Drawing formal inspiration from stones and chestnuts, the artist has used artificial intelligence to generate abstract landscape images in a color palette influenced by trends from the fashion world. In the subsequent printing process, the images were printed with such high color saturation that the printer produced small errors—errors that have been deliberately integrated as part of the artistic expression. The prints were then cut up and reconstructed into a patchwork on upcycled textiles, ensuring that no material went to waste.
The works are designed to interact with the exhibition space. The two suspended textiles feature different motifs on the front and back, meaning that, when viewed by the observer, they transform into four distinct visual experiences. Hung in the window, the textiles’ transparency is brought to life by the dynamic, shifting sunlight.
With RE:PATCH, the artist explores a central, timely question: Is it possible to transform the digital medium into something distinctly sensory, tactile, and human?
The works have previously been exhibited at venues including Vejle City Hall and the Industrial Museum in Horsens. This is the first time they are being presented in a gallery setting.
