Artist Statement – Kristine Rydahl
I am fascinated by contrasts — both the visual and the human ones.
By the tension between what I know and what I do. Between healthy living and the things that pull me toward the destructive. Between the longing to find my person and the feeling of disconnection — from nature, from myself, from a stable harbor.
I want sustainability, yet I often choose convenience. I seek calm, yet I overstimulate myself. I can feel alone in the middle of communities, and I sometimes find it confusing to hold both immense strength and infinite vulnerability.
In my artistic practice, I explore these tensions. I find beauty in the worn, the imperfect, the fragile, and the resilient — in the traces of something lived, lost, or rediscovered. My art is therefore mainly about making space for complexity, doubt, and humanity.
I have painted for a long time — for pleasure, for escape, because something in me needed to. But it is only now that I feel I have found my footing, my urge to explore something of me in my art. Only now do I feel that art brings a sense of calm and meaning to my restless mind… and only now do I feel a genuine desire to share it with you
Thank you for taking the time to look
