Davis Gallery is proud to present
Katherine Whitehouse
and the debut exhibition
Voicebox
Opening Saturday, September 20, 3–7 PM
At 4 PM: Music by “Jossi og de to sværd”
Last day October 18.
The artist Katherine Whitehouse has found her own language. Through painting, she has created a medium of expression, a kind of voicebox, that takes over where ordinary words fall short. The moods of human life—longing, loss, and melancholy—become evident.
The works radiate the glamour of a 1950s film. Yet, while the female ideal of that era was objectifying, Whitehouse succeeds in creating a narrative and staging herself as the subject. One perceives the underlying duality: behind the beauty lurks unease, and the idealized interpretations of women also carry vulnerability within them. The paintings irresistibly draw the viewer into an interpretation based on their own life experiences.
