Davis Gallery invites you to the solo exhibition by
Burning Shadow
Friday 17. January 16 – 19
Last day 15. February
It is with great pleasure that Davis Gallery, Contemporary Art, welcomes Finnish artist Soile Yli-Mäyry for the fourth time.
With her playful and vividly colored glass sculptures and paintings, Soile Yli-Mäyry takes over the gallery in her exhibition Burning Shadow.
Deeply engaged with the complexities of human existence, Yli-Mäyry explores themes that feel particularly urgent today, as global peace hangs in the balance.
The titles of her pieces –Captured Letter, Asphalt Dream, Burning Shadow—act as connections that evoke shifting emotions. Growing up with sign language as her first language, communication becomes the core element of Yli-Mäyry’s work, allowing her direct visual language to speak to people universally. This is further amplified by the expressive and colorful qualities of her work, combined with the tactile, three-dimensional nature of her paintings.
Yli-Mäyry infuses her colors and shapes with an emotional intensity that invites reflection, capturing moods and ideas that words alone cannot fully express. Art’s unique power, she believes, is its ability to express moods and ideas that cannot be put into words.
